How long does it take to set up a successful podcast?

Everyone wants to know how long it takes to set up a successful podcast! Well, the answer depends on what your podcast is and what it’s about, what guests it may feature and what publicity it gets. With all those factors in mind, the time it takes to be successful can vary dramatically. Some podcasts gain a huge following very quickly as they hit a zeitgeist, the themes approached are topical and relevant right now, or because the guests and/or brand partners already have a huge fanbase which can be harnessed (social media, TV, music, film, sports, etc.). Other podcasts may take years to evolve and steadily build up a listenership, which may happen through word of mouth and gradual online support, and then become successful through this development.

Practice makes perfect, and the quality of your work will increase with time, as you get better at producing and promoting it on your own in a first instance, before having a team do this for you. But if you start your own podcast, you should not wait for it to be “perfect” before putting it out to the world. Start right now! Studying Radio, Audio & Podcasting at Point Blank will prepare you for a career in podcast presenting. You will get a head start by learning essential skills and developing connections.
